Office tasks require a different balance of light than most other areas of the home. Home office lighting has the dual purpose of creating a comfortable work environment, while providing illumination.A floor lamp and other lighting fixtures can influence your productivity, accuracy, and minimize fatigue and eye strain.

There are 3 basic types of lighting:

Ambient lighting - Provide effective ambient, or general, lighting to reduce shadows on the work area. Use a torchiere floor lamp, an indirect pendant or wall mounted sconces to provide adequate lighting.

Task lighting - To avoid reflections in your eyes, do not position a task light directly in front of the work area. Use a table lamp or an adjustable floor lamp. An adjustable lamp, like a Tiffany Prairie Mission Adjustable Floor Lamp, provides very specific area lighting.

Accent lighting - a decorative floor lamp, like a Tiffany Amber Meca Mission Floor Lamp, provides illumination and style to a home office design.

An additional benefit of accent lighting is the focal point. A focal point gives the eye an initial point of interest so that it can begin to take in the interior landscape of a room with ease. If your focal point is not an architectural element, such as a fireplace or windows with a beautiful view, create one. One of the simplest and effective ways to add a focal point is to use an eye-catching, decorative floor lamp.

Multi-layer Lighting:

At a minimum you need at least two sources of light, if not three, to create adequate home office lighting.

In addition to your overhead light, consider a desk lamp. An adjustable table lamp provides is easily moved during different periods of the day. Throughout the day you may require more or less light to be comfortable at the computer. Position a lighting source, like a torchiere floor lamp to light the wall/space behind your computer. It will eliminate pockets of darkness and prevent contrast with the brightness of the computer. Don't put lights anywhere that will produce glare on your monitor.

The type of lighting in the room affects your mood.  In addition to a floor lamp and other light fixtures, it is important to have as much natural light as possible.

Maintain a level of professionalism.

If you are going to have clients visit, the clients should be kept in mind in all stages of the office design. Is their sitting area lit up adequately? Does your office décor reflect your company's ideals, goals, and identity? When it comes to home office lighting, a Tiffany floor lamp or table lamp is second to none.

Reflect your style.

Express your personality and style. Your working environment has a large impact on your productivity, creativity, and energy level. An interesting artwork and sculpture contribute a stylish note without interfering with daily transactions.

Your home office should be efficient, yet beautiful. Lighting is the most overlooked area of designing a room and it has a large impact on the finished project. To the rescue, a Meyda Tiffany floor lamp is one design move that can both enhance and brighten the look of your office.
